More About The History Of April Fair

April Fair

April Fair or the Seville Fair is a week-long festival held every year in Seville, Spain during April two weeks after Easter Sunday. The origins of holding the fair in April are deeply rooted in historical and cultural factors. The fair celebrates Andalusian culture through flamenco dancing, music, traditional costumes, food and lots of rebujito.

Cena del Pescaíto

'Cena del Pescaíto' means "Fish Dinner" and pays” homage to the "Pescaíto Frito" or "Fried Fish" tradition of Seville Fair. Fishermen from the Guadalquivir River would bring their catch to cook and enjoy at the fair, and this tradition became an integral part of the culinary experience symbolising the festive spirit and camaraderie of the event.

 Significance of Serving Fish

Fish holds cultural significance in Andalusian cuisine and is deeply rooted in the region's culinary heritage. In Andalusia, seafood is abundant and widely enjoyed, thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Fish dishes are often associated with freshness, simplicity, and a connection to the sea.

Serving fish at the "Cena del Pescaíto" not only honours this culinary tradition but also adds to the festive atmosphere of the event. It provides attendees with an opportunity to savour the flavours of Andalusia and experience authentic Spanish cuisine first-hand.

But don't worry, if you are not a fan of seafood, we have other dishes available for you to choose from.

Connection to the First Day of the April Fair

The first day of the Seville Fair, known as "El Día del Pescaíto" or "Fish Day," traditionally falls on the eve of the official opening day. On this day, locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy a meal of freshly fried fish, marking the unofficial start of the fair.

By hosting the "Cena del Pescaíto" on the first day of the April Fair, Maricarmen pays tribute to this time-honoured tradition and invites guests to partake in the festivities from afar. It sets the tone for a joyous celebration filled with delicious food, lively music, and the warm hospitality that defines the Seville Fair.
